Plant Prefab Kitchen Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
A full Plant Prefab kitchen remodel in Tampa runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet volume, countertop material, and how much of the existing prefab shell stays intact. We stock the cabinet, countertop, and fixture parts needed to match or upgrade a Plant Prefab kitchen, and we quote written prices before any work starts. Most owners call us after discovering cabinet hardware fatigue or laminate surfaces separating in Florida humidity. You’re not crazy: Plant Prefab modules are built tight for transport, but the interior finishes don’t always hold up the way site-built kitchens do, especially here where the air spends half the year wet.
One thing up front: Bradford Remodeling Co Tampa is an independent remodeling contractor. We are not affiliated with Plant Prefab. We work on their modules constantly and we know how they’re put together, but nobody pays us to say that.
Which Plant Prefab Models This Applies To

Plant Prefab’s line has shifted over the years, but in Tampa we see three kitchen configurations most often: the LivingHome series (built on a steel and wood hybrid chassis), the older Plant Prefab ADU modules from the Rialto era, and a handful of custom panelized builds where the kitchen arrives as flat-pack cabinets keyed to a wall panel schedule. The compatibility gotcha is cabinet depth. Plant Prefab kitchens are frequently built at 22 inches deep instead of the standard 24 inches to save transit width. If you order a standard 24-inch replacement cabinet, it will overhang the toe-kick line and sit proud of the adjacent panel. We field-measure every opening before ordering, and we order to the inch, not to a catalog number.
The first place to look on your module is the spec sheet or a small silver sticker inside a lower cabinet door or under the sink base. That sticker usually carries the module serial and the cabinet line. If the sticker is gone (it often is, after a decade of humidity), we identify the cabinet series by hinge brand, drawer box material, and edge banding. On the OEM-vs-aftermarket question: Plant Prefab kitchens were typically specified with mid-tier cabinet lines that are now discontinued. A quality aftermarket cabinet from KraftMaid or Wellborn often runs better hardware than the original, and we can match the door profile closely enough that most owners can’t tell which door is new.

Signs Your Plant Prefab Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors sagging or not closing square. Most Plant Prefab cabinets use concealed European hinges. Florida heat cycles work the screws loose in the particleboard, and the hinge plate starts to cam out. Sometimes it’s a five-minute adjustment. Sometimes the screw holes are wallowed out and the door needs a hinge relocation or a new door entirely.
- Laminate or veneer separating at edges. The original edge banding on many prefab kitchens was heat-applied. Years of Tampa humidity gets under it, and the banding lifts. We see it worst on the sink base and the dishwasher return panel.
- Drawer slides binding or catching. The original slides are typically the light-duty three-quarter extension type, and they collect Florida dust and cooking grease until the bearings give out. The drawer will still open if you yank hard enough, but it won’t open right.
- Countertop seams opening or laminate peeling at the sink cutout. This is the big one in Florida. Water gets under the laminate at the sink rim, the substrate (that’s the particleboard under the pretty surface) swells, and suddenly the counter isn’t flat anymore. Once swelling starts, patching won’t fix it. The counter needs replacement.
- Toe-kick panels loose or pulling away. The toe-kick (the recessed strip at the floor under the cabinet doors) is held with small clips or staples on many prefab builds. Once it’s loose, it will never re-seat tight. New clips and a solid re-mount fixes it, or we replace the panel if it’s water-damaged.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here is the honest money. In Tampa, a full Plant Prefab kitchen remodel with Bradford Remodeling runs $14,000 to $45,000. The spread is driven by three things: linear feet of cabinetry, countertop material, and whether we’re keeping the existing plumbing and electrical rough-in (the pipes and wires behind the walls) or moving them. If the rough-in stays put, the job is mostly swap-work and goes faster. If you want the sink moved, that’s new plumbing, and the price climbs.
- Partial refresh (cabinet doors, hardware, countertop, backsplash): $14,000 – $22,000
- Full cabinet replacement with mid-grade counters (laminate or butcher block): $20,000 – $32,000
- Complete kitchen gut with stone counters (Cambria or Silestone), new island, new fixtures: $32,000 – $45,000
Every price is written, line by line, before the first tool comes out, and it does not move at the door. Your project also gets the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if any part of our work fails inside a year, we come back and correct it at no charge. That’s in writing, not spoken.
DIY or Call Us?
Some of this is safely DIY-able. Replacing a drawer slide, snugging a hinge screw, or swapping a cabinet knob are all things a Tampa homeowner can do with a screwdriver and twenty minutes. Where DIY goes wrong is when a cabinet box has water damage, when a countertop substrate is swollen, or when the plumbing rough-in has to move. Those require the wall or the cabinet to come apart, and doing it wrong means a bigger correction later. Nothing in a kitchen remodel is inherently dangerous the way a garage spring is, but a countertop that’s not installed flat will fail within a year, and that’s money you don’t get back.
If the problem is small, we’ll tell you how to fix it over the phone, and we won’t charge you for the phone call. If it’s big, call (941) 655-9297 and we’ll give you a straight number.
FAQs

You can expect 12 to 18 years from the original Plant Prefab kitchen before the cabinet boxes, countertops, or both show meaningful wear that justifies a remodel. Florida humidity shortens that timeline compared to a dry climate, and the sink base is usually the first failure point. Soft-close hardware buys you more time, but it doesn’t prevent substrate swelling at the sink. Call (941) 655-9297 if you want us to look at what you’ve got before you commit to a full remodel. The assessment is free.
Yes, in many cases. If the cabinet boxes are dry, square, and solid, we can replace doors, drawer fronts, hardware, countertops, and backsplash and save you thousands versus a full gut. If the boxes themselves are water-swollen or the framing behind the drywall has rot, repair stops making sense and replacement is the smarter spend. We only recommend replacement when repair is genuinely worse money. Call (941) 655-9297 and we’ll tell you which one you have.
A partial refresh typically takes 2 to 3 working days in Tampa. A full cabinet and countertop replacement usually runs 2 to 4 weeks, depending on material lead times from the manufacturer. Stone counters (Cambria, Silestone) are usually the longest lead item. We give you a written schedule with the written price, and the schedule holds or we tell you why it moved before it moves.
We stock common replacement hardware (hinges, slides, drawer boxes, toe-kick clips) on our trucks, and we keep a working inventory of cabinet door samples and edge-banding colors to match existing finishes. Full cabinet boxes and stone slabs are ordered to spec after we measure. We also install KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry and Cambria and Silestone surfaces, so most replacements can be matched or improved without waiting on a discontinued OEM part.
Straight number, clear scope, no surprises at close-out. Call (941) 655-9297 to schedule a free estimate for your Plant Prefab kitchen remodel in Tampa.
