PGT Fence Installation: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
PGT fence installation in Tampa typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 for a standard residential lot, depending on footage, gate count, and whether we’re dealing with aluminum or vinyl post systems. If you already have PGT panels and a section has failed, we stock compatible posts, brackets, and gate hardware and can usually schedule the repair within the week. Most Tampa homeowners discover the problem the same way: a gate that drags, a post that leans after a summer storm, or a panel that rattles loose in the afternoon sea breeze coming off the bay.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT’s fence lines split into two main families: aluminum panel systems and vinyl privacy systems. The aluminum runs use a proprietary post-and-rail bracket that looks generic but isn’t. A big-box bracket will bolt on, and it will wobble within eighteen months because the post channel is shallower than the PGT spec. If you’re replacing a section, check the post cap for an embossed “PGT” stamp, or measure the top rail: PGT aluminum rails run 2 inches by 1-5/8 inches, not the standard 2×2 you’ll find at a supply yard. For vinyl, the tongue-and-groove profile is a 6-inch plank with a locking channel that aftermarket boards rarely match without shimming. When a client brings us a failed section, we prefer OEM parts for the structural members, posts, and gates. Brackets and cap trim we’ll do in a quality aftermarket equivalent when the OEM lead time is longer than the client wants to wait. We’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your PGT Fence Installation Is Failing
- Gate drag at the latch side. The hinge post has shifted out of plumb, usually because the concrete footer wasn’t deep enough for Florida’s sandy soil, and the weight of the gate is slowly walking the post forward.
- Panel rattle in normal wind. The self-tapping screws that hold the panel to the bracket have stripped their holes. This is common on aluminum after a few harsh summers, when thermal expansion works the fasteners loose over and over until the threads give out.
- White chalk on your hands after touching a vinyl rail. UV breakdown. PGT vinyl has better inhibitors than most, but Tampa sun eventually oxidizes the surface. It’s cosmetic at first, but left alone the rail gets brittle and cracks at the joints.
- Post lean after a storm, even a mild one. The post wasn’t set in concrete below the frost line, or worse, it was set in soil only. In Tampa, we set posts a minimum of 2 feet deep in a concrete footer, because our “winter” is just enough rain to soften the ground without any real freeze to tell you where the weak points are.
- Water pooling inside a vinyl post cap. The cap was sealed, not vented. Trapped moisture plus heat cycles will bow the post. We drill a small weep hole in the cap during install, which most crews skip because it’s not visible.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
A full PGT fence install in Tampa runs $3,500 to $9,000, with most of the range driven by linear footage, gate hardware, and demo of the old fence. For a partial repair, say a single failed gate post with hardware and panel replacement, you’re typically looking at $400 to $900 on the low end, and a full gate replacement with PGT-compatible hardware runs $1,200 to $2,800 depending on width and automation. Every quote we write is a line-item price in writing before any work starts. You’ll see the post count, the footer depth, the exact brackets and screws, and the labor separated out. That price does not move once we start, and the work is covered under the 365-Day Done Right Promise, a written one-year guarantee. If a post shifts or a gate binds inside that year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

You can safely check a few things on your own: look for stripped screws at the bracket connections, check whether a gate post is out of plumb with a level, and eyeball whether water is pooling anywhere along the rail line. That diagnosis costs you nothing. What we don’t recommend is digging out a failed post and pouring a new footer on a weekend. The injury risk is low, but the failure risk is high: too shallow a footer, wrong concrete mix for the soil, or a gate rehung a quarter-inch out of square, and you’ll be back in the same spot in a year. Plus, the cut-to-fit PGT rails don’t respond well to improvised hacksaw work. If you want the section matched, plumb, and guaranteed, call us at (941) 655-9297 and we’ll get you a written price.
FAQs

A properly installed PGT fence lasts 20 to 25 years in Tampa, though the gate hardware typically needs attention between years 8 and 12 because salt air and humidity are harder on moving parts than on the panels themselves. The panels will outlast the posts, which is why footer depth matters more than the fence brand itself. If you’re at year 15 and seeing gate issues, that’s normal wear. Call (941) 655-9297 for an exact assessment.
Yes, in most cases a single failed section or post can be repaired without touching the rest of the fence line, as long as the panels are still structurally sound. We typically replace the post, bracket set, and fasteners, then rehang the existing panel. If the panel itself is cracked or the rail is bent, we’ll price the replacement section separately. Call (941) 655-9297 and we’ll tell you before any work starts which parts actually need to go.
A standard residential PGT fence installation in Tampa takes two to three working days from first dig to final cleanup for a typical 150 to 200 linear foot lot. That includes demo of the old fence, setting posts, letting the concrete set overnight, then hanging panels and hardware on day two or three. Gates with automation add about half a day. We’ll give you a written schedule with the quote, not a vague “sometime next week.”
We stock the common PGT-compatible brackets, post caps, gate hinges, and latch hardware on the truck, and we can source full OEM sections through our suppliers within a few business days for Tampa jobs. We’ve also done partial installs where we matched existing PGT panels with compatible posts and hardware where the customer wanted to keep costs down. Along with PGT fence parts, we work with a documented roster of name brands including KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone, so you know exactly what spec is going in. Call (941) 655-9297 with your post stamp or panel measurement and we’ll confirm before you commit to anything.
