Cover Windows & Doors: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Cover-compatible windows and doors across Tampa, with most replacements running $4,500 to $15,000 installed depending on size, series, and what has to come out before the new unit goes in. Most Cover window and door swaps we handle are done in a single day once the replacement is on-site. The usual way a homeowner finds us: the sash won’t stay up, the panel is fogged between the glass, or the door no longer latches square after a few Tampa summers of humidity and thermal movement.
Before anything else, a plain statement: Bradford Remodeling Co Tampa is an independent contractor. We are not a Cover factory service center, and we are not affiliated with Cover. What we are is a Tampa-based crew that has installed and replaced enough Cover units to know which parts match which series, where the weak points are, and what a fair installed price looks like in this market.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover ships several window and door lines that have made their way into Tampa homes over the past decade. The two you will most often see in this area are the Cover 2000 Series and the Cover 4000 Series, and the compatibility gotcha is this: hardware from a 4000 Series window will not reliably fit a 2000 Series frame, even when the rough opening dimensions are identical. We have pulled enough of these apart to know that the lock sets, balance shoes, and hinge plates changed between series, and guessing wrong means a window that binds or a door that will not seal.
To identify what you have, look at the spacer bar between the glass panes or the frame extrusion on the interior side. Cover stamps the series there, usually in small raised lettering on a metal or vinyl tag. If the label is gone, measure the visible glass width, not the frame. A 2000 Series double-hung with a 28-inch visible glass is a different unit spec than a 36-inch in the same frame line, even though the frame width looks close. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question: for glass packs and sealed units, we prefer OEM Cover replacement sashes when the series is still in production. For hardware like locks, rollers, and balances, quality aftermarket parts from the same Florida distributors we have used for years usually install faster and hold up just as well in Tampa humidity, provided the series match is correct.

Signs Your Cover Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Condensation or fog between the glass panes. The seal on the insulated glass unit has failed. Once moisture is inside the IGU, the argon or krypton fill is gone, the glass loses its thermal performance, and the only real fix is a new sash or a new IGU. You cannot dry it out from the outside.
- The sash drops when you raise it. On double-hungs, this is the balance system. The spring or block-and-tackle balance inside the jamb has given out. It is a common Tampa failure because repeated thermal cycling in humid air accelerates wear on nylon balance shoes.
- The window or door will not lock without lifting or shoving. The frame has settled or the hinges have sagged, which means the sash is no longer square in the opening. Forcing the lock every day only bends the keeper until the lock gear on the handle strips out.
- You can feel air moving around the panel even when it is closed and locked. Weatherstripping has compressed or torn, or the frame has shifted enough to break the seal line. In Tampa, a small air leak becomes a humidity leak, and that gets expensive in air conditioning load within a month.
- The door panel scrapes the threshold or the jamb on the swing. Rollers are flattened, or the panel has absorbed enough moisture to swell slightly, or the hinge adjustment is out. Left alone, the scraping wears through the frame coating and then you are replacing the frame corner as well as the panel.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Cover windows, most Tampa replacements run between $4,500 and $15,000 installed for a full project, with single-unit replacements commonly falling between $800 and $2,500 per opening depending on the series and the size of the glass pack. A Cover sliding door replacement in Tampa typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed. What moves the number: whether we are replacing just the sash or the full frame, whether the existing rough opening is square, whether rot or moisture at the substrate has to be cut out and rebuilt, and whether a permit is required for the opening change.
Every estimate from us is a written line-item price before any work starts. That means the part, the labor, the haul-away, and any trim or sealant are listed in dollars on the page you sign, not rounded up later. We hold that number. Curtis Lane has priced jobs in the Seminole Heights bungalow stock for years, and he does not revise the figure after the contract is signed. Straight number, clear scope, no surprises at close-out.
The installed work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the window or door fails within one year of installation, we come back and correct it at no charge. That is in writing, every time, no exceptions.

You can safely check a few things before you spend any money: confirm whether the lock gear is engaging, look at the weatherstripping for tears, and check whether the unit is still square by measuring diagonal corner to corner. That tells you whether you have a hardware problem or a frame problem. What we do not recommend is pulling a Cover sash balance out of the jamb yourself. These are spring-loaded, and on some Cover series the tension is enough to take a finger or split a jamb if it releases wrong. If the sash is fogged, there is no field repair that restores the IGU. That is a replacement job, full stop.
If the panel is swinging, sticking, fogged, or dropping, call us at (941) 655-9297. We will tell you over the phone whether it sounds like a balance, a bad IGU, or a frame issue, and we will give you a written price before we show up with tools.
FAQs

In Tampa’s humidity, expect 15 to 20 years from a Cover insulated glass unit before the seals go, and 8 to 12 years from the moving hardware like rollers, balances, and lock sets. Coastal-adjacent homes with salt air often see hardware wear on the shorter end of that range. Call (941) 655-9297 for an exact quote, estimates are free.
A fogged Cover window means the IGU seal has failed, and once moisture is between the panes the unit cannot be repaired in the field. The fix is a new sash or a new IGU, which we can source and install for you. Call (941) 655-9297 and we will tell you which option your series allows.
A single sash or glass pack replacement usually takes under two hours once we are on-site, and a full-frame window or sliding door replacement is typically a single day. The variable is whether the surround has rot or moisture damage that has to be rebuilt before the new unit goes in. Call (941) 655-9297 for a schedule estimate based on your specific opening.
We carry common Cover hardware like balances, lock sets, rollers, and weatherstripping for the 2000 and 4000 Series, which covers most Tampa service calls without a second trip. Sealed glass units and full door panels are ordered per job because the sizes and series differ from home to home. We also keep parts on hand for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone installations, though windows and doors are our focus here.
