Cover Bathroom Remodeling: The Tampa Owner’s Guide
A full Cover bathroom remodel in Tampa typically runs $9,000 to $28,000, with most mid-size projects landing between $12,000 and $18,000 depending on fixture grades, waterproofing scope, and whether you’re moving plumbing or keeping the existing rough-in. We install and service Cover bathroom systems, and we keep the common failure points in stock or on quick order so you’re not waiting three weeks on a backordered valve or a discontinued trim kit.
Most Tampa homeowners find out something’s wrong the same way: a slow leak under the vanity that turns into a buckled cabinet base, a shower valve that won’t hold temperature, or a tub surround that’s started pulling away from the substrate behind it. In a Florida climate, the humidity accelerates every one of these failures, because moisture gets behind the surface and never really dries out.
Quick answer on pricing: a Cover tub-to-shower conversion runs $3,500 to $10,000, a walk-in shower install is $4,500 to $12,000, and a full bathroom gut-and-remodel sits in that $9,000 to $28,000 band. The spread comes down to three things: whether you’re keeping the existing footprint, what grade of fixtures you spec, and what condition the framing and subfloor are in once we open the walls.
Here’s what matters before you spend a dollar: get the scope in writing, know exactly what’s covered, and don’t let anyone start demo without a signed line-item price. That’s how we run every job. Curtis Lane has been framing and finishing bathrooms across Florida for over two decades, and he learned early that a bathroom remodel is only as good as what’s behind the tile. Straight number, clear scope, no surprises at close-out.
Which Cover Models This Applies To

Cover builds bathroom lines across several series tiers, and the part you need depends on which line you have. The entry-level Cover lines use standard 60-inch tubs and 32-inch surrounds with plastic trim kits and basic pressure-balance valves. The mid and upper lines move into 60-inch acrylic surrounds with molded shelving, metal trim plates, and thermostatic valves that hold temperature within a degree. We also work on Cover’s walk-in shower pans, which come in 32, 34, 36, and 48-inch widths, and those pans are not interchangeable across series.
The fastest way to identify your Cover part is the label inside the tub apron or on the back of the surround panel. It’ll have a series code and a manufacture date. If the label is gone, measure the tub at its widest flange point and the surround drain center: Cover’s standard drain center is 14-1/2 inches off the back wall, but the older Tampa inventory from the mid-2010s used a 15-1/4 offset. That three-quarter-inch difference is the single biggest compatibility gotcha we see, and it’s why we don’t order parts blind.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for valves, trim, and drain assemblies, the Cover OEM part is usually the right call because the thread pitch and cartridge depth are tooled specifically for that series. For surrounds and pans, quality aftermarket equivalents from manufacturers like Aquatic and MAAX often fit the same footprint and carry equal or better warranties. We’ll tell you which one makes sense for your specific part, because sometimes the OEM part has been discontinued and the aftermarket is the only thing that keeps your bathroom out of a full gut.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Cover Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft spots in the floor around the tub apron or toilet flange. Water has been wicking into the subfloor for months, and the plywood or OSB is delaminating. By the time you feel it flex, the damage is underneath, not on top.
- Shower valve that drifts hot or cold while running. The pressure-balance spool or thermostatic cartridge is worn out from Tampa’s hard water. You can sometimes clean it, but once the seals go, the fix is a new cartridge, not a descaling.
- Caulk peeling or cracking at the tub-to-tile joint. Surfaces move with Florida’s humidity swings, and once that joint opens, water gets behind the surround. Re-caulking buys time; if the backing board is already spongy, it doesn’t fix anything.
- Rust stains or bubbling on the surround flange. The galvanized flange or screw heads are corroding, which means moisture has been trapped in the wall cavity for a long time. This is common in older Tampa homes where the original venting wasn’t cutting it.
- Drain that gurgles or backs up after a shower. The drain assembly or P-trap has partial blockage or the vent line is compromised. In slab-on-grade Tampa homes, this can be a bigger repair than it looks from the surface.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Replacing failed Cover bathroom components in Tampa runs on a predictable scale. A valve cartridge replacement with trim runs $300 to $600 installed, depending on the series. A full tub surround replacement runs $2,500 to $5,500, which includes demo of the old surround, new moisture-resistant backing board, the new surround panels, and finish work. A complete bathroom remodel, with all Cover components replaced and new waterproofing throughout, lands in that $9,000 to $28,000 range.
Here’s the pricing breakdown we give at the table, so nothing moves later:
- Cover valve and trim replacement: $300 – $600
- Tub surround replacement (materials + labor): $2,500 – $5,500
- Tub-to-shower conversion: $3,500 – $10,000
- Walk-in shower installation: $4,500 – $12,000
- Full bathroom remodel (Cover components, full waterproofing): $9,000 – $28,000
Every number we quote is written down before any work starts, as is every line item, brand, and spec. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it applies whether we’re swapping a $500 cartridge or tearing the whole thing down to studs. And the finished work is backed by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Written, signed, in your hand at close-out.

AfterDIY or Call Us?
Some Cover bathroom work is safe for a careful homeowner. Replacing an escutcheon plate, swapping a showerhead, or re-caulking a tub-to-tile joint are all reasonable Saturday jobs. If you can read the model label and order the trim piece, go for it.
What you should not DIY: anything involving the valve body, the drain assembly below the floor, or demo behind the surround. A valve replacement means cutting off the water at the main, sweating or threading pipe, and getting the cartridge seated without nicking an O-ring. A drain repair in a slab home means opening the floor. And pulling a surround off a wet wall without knowing what’s behind it is how a $600 fix becomes a $9,000 remodel. If you’re not sure where the water is actually coming from, call us at (941) 655-9297. We’ll chart out the exact scope and give you a written price before we touch a tool.
FAQs

A properly installed Cover tub, surround, or shower pan should last 15 to 25 years in Tampa, but the valve cartridges and seals typically need replacement every 7 to 10 years because our water is hard on rubber and brass. If you get less than a decade out of a surround, the problem is usually installation or ventilation, not the material itself.
Small cracks and loose seams can sometimes be patched, but once the backing board behind the surround is wet, patching is throwing money at a problem that’s already spreading. We’ll open a small inspection port, check the substrate, and tell you straight whether it’s a repair or a replacement. Call (941) 655-9297 to get that answer in writing, not as a guess.
A valve and trim swap is a half-day job. A full surround replacement runs two to three days including demo, drying time, and finish work. A complete bathroom remodel with Cover components takes two to four weeks, depending on whether we’re moving plumbing or rebuilding the wet wall. We schedule it and we hold the schedule.
We keep common Cover cartridges, trim kits, and drain assemblies on the truck and in our Tampa shop. Surrounds and shower pans are ordered to spec, and we’ll give you the lead time in writing before you commit. We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone for vanities and surfaces, so the whole bathroom can be handled in one scope.
