PGT Roofing: The Tampa Owner’s Guide

We stock and install PGT-compatible roofing parts across Tampa, with most replacements running $400 to $1,800 installed depending on which component failed and how much surrounding material needs to come out. If you’re looking at a full roof replacement because the decking or underlayment has gone with it, that range climbs to $8,000 to $20,000. Most PGT owners don’t discover a roofing problem until water shows up on the ceiling or a shingle ends up in the yard after a Tampa afternoon thunderstorm. By then, the part that failed has usually been quietly degrading for a season or two. We’re an independent Tampa contractor, not a PGT factory outlet, which means we match what’s on your roof, source the correct replacement, and stand behind the install with our own written guarantee.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

PGT’s roofing line shows up on three main product families in Tampa: their standard architectural asphalt shingle systems, the PGT StormShield aluminum roof panels, and their standing-seam metal profiles. Each one uses a different attachment system, and that’s where parts get mismatched. The architectural shingle line uses standard 5-5/8″ exposure with PGT’s reinforced nail strip, which means a generic shingle will fit the reveal but won’t carry the same wind rating. The StormShield panels are 16″ wide with a snap-lock seam that only accepts PGT’s matching clip profile. Standing-seam uses a 1-3/4″ seam height at 24″ panel width, and the clips are stamped with a letter code: A for the 16″ profile, B for the 24″. If you can’t find the stamp, measure the flat between seams. We’ve pulled off more than one roof in Seminole Heights where someone guessed wrong on the clip and the whole run lifted in the first stiff wind.

On the OEM-versus-aftermarket decision: for PGT’s shingle line, a quality aftermarket architectural shingle with the same exposure and wind rating is a fine match, and it saves real money. For the metal profiles, we don’t gamble. The seam geometry is too tight, and a clip that’s a sixteenth off will leak or rattle. We go OEM for PGT metal components, every time. It costs more up front and costs less by year three.

Signs Your PGT Roofing Is Failing

  • Water staining on the ceiling directly under a seam or valley. The underlayment has been compromised, usually at a penetration point like a vent or a chimney flashing. That means the roofing above it is no longer shedding water the way it should, and the leak is finding the path of least resistance into the house.
  • Granules collecting in the gutters or at the base of the downspout. Architectural shingles shed granules as they age, but when you can see bare asphalt patches starting on the shingle face, the UV exposure from Tampa’s sun has cooked the mat. The shingle is near the end of its useful life.
  • Lifted or missing shingle tabs after a storm. The nail strip has lost its grip, either because the shingles were high-nailed by the original installer or the adhesive has given out. A lifted shingle lets water run sideways under the course above it, which spreads damage faster than people expect.
  • Oil-canning or waviness across a metal panel run. On PGT’s standing-seam and StormShield profiles, visible waviness usually means the clips weren’t set to the right tolerance, or the panel has been walked on and kinked. Once the seam is distorted, the interlock wears and water rides the capillary gap.
  • A metallic tick sound when wind gusts come through. That’s a loose clip or a seam that’s no longer fully engaged. The panel itself is fine, but the connection has failed. Left alone, the panel can unzip from the roof deck in a strong enough gust, which is how Tampa homeowners end up with sheet metal in their neighbor’s yard.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A whole-home remodel with the living, dining and kitchen areas opened up

In Tampa, a PGT roofing component replacement runs $400 to $1,800, and the spread is driven by what failed and what’s beneath it. A simple shingle tab replacement with a matching architectural profile sits at the low end. A full rake or ridge run with new underlayment lands mid-range. Replacing a run of aluminum cladding where the decking has started to rot pushes to the top of that range, because the substrate has to come out and be re-sheeted before new material goes down. Full PGT roof replacement in Tampa runs $8,000 to $20,000 on most homes, and that includes tear-off, disposal, new underlayment, and the roofing system itself.

Every quote we write for PGT roofing work is a written price before any work starts. That price includes the parts, the labor, the disposal, and the permit when one is required. What it doesn’t include is a change order at the door. If the decking is worse than we could see from the surface, we’ll show you, explain what it costs, and get your sign-off before another sheet gets pulled. That’s The Garrison Standard, and it’s in writing. The full year of coverage comes from our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the roofing fails inside that window, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe way to be involved, and there’s a way that turns a $600 repair into a $12,000 interior job. Walk the perimeter with binoculars after a storm and look for lifted tabs, missing shingles, or visible seam separation. Check the attic for daylight coming through the deck. Write down what you see and where. That’s genuinely useful, and it’s where your job ends. What you should not do is climb a Tampa roof in July heat, especially one with a damaged section, because the surface temperature on architectural shingles hits 150 degrees in direct sun, and a slipped footing on a granulated surface is a long way down. Roofing work also involves working at height around skylights, vents, and flashing, and a fall is not the only risk. If the wrong seam profile gets installed, or the underlayment isn’t lapped correctly, the roof fails. That’s a professional repair. Call (941) 655-9297 and we’ll get eyes on it before it gets worse.
